• Design a bar that’s genuinely inclusive and accessible.

• Incorporate disabled access ramps, low seating, and acoustic panelling to support comfort for all guests.

• Create a moody, underground space that feels intimate and distinctly Fitzroy.

• Include a games area for a relaxed, social vibe and a dance floor for late-night energy.

• Pull everything together in a way that feels warm, welcoming, and easy to inhabit.

Concept and Design Features:

The Poet’s Nook is imagined as a tucked-away Fitzroy bar with a bit of attitude — dark, atmospheric, and full of small details that encourage people to settle in. The lighting is soft, the materials feel grounded, and the overall mood leans into that classic Melbourne “underground” character.

Accessibility sits at the centre of the design. Ramps, lower seating options, and acoustic treatments make the space comfortable for a wide range of patrons without drawing attention to themselves. The plan flows between a games corner, a relaxed bar zone, and a compact dance floor, giving the venue a playful mix of quiet moments and late-night buzz.

The result is a bar that feels inviting, understated, and a little bit secret — the kind of spot people return to because it’s easy, familiar, and genuinely enjoyable to be in.
